On February 11, 2024, following Divine Liturgy, and after the weekly parish Sunday luncheon in the cathedral refectory, the cathedral community screened the Russian feature film "Matthew Passion," which is a coming of age-romantic-comedy-drama written and directed by Sergei Ilyin.
The film was released on the wide screen in 2023. The film is a touching and humorous story about the search of a theological seminary graduate for his life partner. The author of the film is the young director Sergei Ilyin, who at one time served as an altar boy in one of the churches near St. Petersburg and was well acquainted with church life.
The film was shown to parishioners of the St. Nicholas Cathedral on the initiative of the rector, Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov, who in 2022 in Moscow, fulfilling the instructions of the Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, became one of the church consultants for this film. It was enjoyed by one and all!
