On May 23, 2023, Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov, rector of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York, took part in a meeting between Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York; First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, and Mr. Alexander Konstantinovich Zakharov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in New York.
For the Russian diplomat, recently appointed to his current post in New York, and the First Hierarch, this was the first personal meeting. It was held at the residence of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
Metropolitan Nicholas showed A. K. Zakharov the Cathedral of the Sign, located in the building of the residence, they discussed its history and shrines. Leading his guest into the Metropolitan's quarters, Vladyka drew his special attention to the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, which is kept there. A luncheon hosted by the First Hierarch was also held there in his private quarters.
Also participating in the meeting was Archpriest Seraphim Gan, Chancellor of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
