On December 10, 2024, Archpriest Igor Vyzhanov, rector of St. Nicholas Patriarchal Cathedral in New York, took part in the Divine Liturgy on the day of commemoration of the Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign,” which was led by the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York.
The service took place in the Znamensky Cathedral, located in the building of the Synodal Residence of the Russian Church Abroad. The Liturgy traditionally concluded the next session of its Synod.
The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad was assisted by Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, Archbishop Kirill of San Francisco and Western America, Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada, Bishops Theodosius of Seattle, Ireneus of London and Western Europe, Luke of Syracuse, Job and Jerome (Shaw) of Stuttgart, clergy of the Eastern American, Mid-American and Canadian dioceses, and guests in holy orders of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Antiochian and Romanian Churches.
At the end of the liturgy, the hierarchs and clergy served a short prayer service before the Kursk Root Icon.
After the service, a festive banquet was held in the cathedral hall of the Synodal residence.
