On December 9, 2025, at St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) in Seattle, Bishop Matthew of Sourozh, the temporary Administrator of the Patriarchal Parishes in the USA and Canada, acting on the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, met with American public figure and journalist Peter Anderson. Mr. Anderson was honored by His Holiness with the high award of the Russian Orthodox Church—the Order of Glory and Honor, 2nd Class—for his significant contribution to inter-church cooperation and humanitarian work, as well as to strengthening peace and friendship among peoples.
After conferring the award, Bishop Matthew conveyed Patriarch Kirill's good wishes to P. Anderson and wished him God's assistance in his continued efforts to foster inter-Christian dialogue. In turn, Peter Anderson asked that his heartfelt gratitude be conveyed to His Holiness for the high recognition of his work, along with his wishes for success in the exalted and responsible service of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
During the conversation following the award ceremony, Mr. Anderson confessed that the news of his receiving this high honor from the Bishop of Sourozh had pleasantly surprised him. He recalled with great warmth his acquaintance and interaction with Metropolitan Anthony (Bloom) of Sourozh in London in 1985.
Also present at the ceremony for the conferral of the Patriarchal award were the Keykeeper of St. Nicholas Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in Seattle, Archpriest Vyacheslav Davidenko; Peter Anderson's wife; and the bishop's personal secretary, Subdeacon Nikolai Trubnikov.
